2-bit refers to two binary (0 or 1) units of integer data. This allows for up to 4 combinations of values, typically from 0 to 3.
- 2-bit color allows for up to 4 grays, or 4 colors assigned by a color lookup table (CLUT). This is also referred to as the CGA standard by PC users.
- 2-bit sound allows for a range of up to 4 values (−2 to +1) per sample (Hertz), though at the expense of introducing more quantization noise.[1]
