- January 6: Apple CEO Steve Jobs announces the 1st-generation iPod mini at the keynote event of Macworld Expo in San Francisco. iLife '04 and iMovie 4 are released. Other announcements include Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.
February 2004[]
- February 1: Apple Computer and Pepsi collaborate to announce a giveaway of 100 million free songs though iTunes in a commercial that is aired during Super Bowl XXXVIII.
- February 3: TheFacebook is launched at Harvard College.
- February 20: The 1st-generation iPod mini is released.
March 2004[]
- March 15: Mac OS X 10.3.3 (Panther) is released.
- March 16: Mac OS X Server 10.3.3 is released. FingaMIDI 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) is also released.

- April 3: The Beijing Macintosh User Group is temporarily regrouped as the Beijing Macintosh Union.
- April 14: Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac is released to manufacturing. FingaMIDI 1.1 is released for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther).
- April 18: Apple Computer announces DVD Studio Pro 3 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. FingaMIDI 1.2 is released for Mac OS X.
- April 19: Apple Computer announces updated iBook G4 models that run at 1.0 to 1.2 GHz with optional SuperDrives. Apple also provides a preview demonstration of Motion at the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
- April 28: The Apple Lossless encoder is introduced in iTunes 4.5 and QuickTime 6.5.1.
