January 2005[]
- January 4: Xsan 1.0 begins shipping.
- January 5: The ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition graphics card is released for Power Mac G5 models with an AGP slot.
- January 7: Mac OS X Server 10.3.8 is released.
- January 11: At the keynote address of the Macworld Conference & Expo San Francisco 2005, the first iPod shuffle is introduced. iLife '05 is also released, which includes GarageBand 2, iDVD 5, iMovie HD, iPhoto 5, and iTunes 4.7.1.
- January 22: iWork '05 and the first Mac mini are released.
- January 25: Security Update 2005-001 is released for Mac OS X 10.2.8 (Jaguar) and 10.3.7 (Panther).
- January 27: iMovie 5.0.1 is released.
- January 31: Apple Computer introduces aluminum PowerBook G4 models with USB-based trackpads.
February 2005[]
- February 2: iPhoto 5.0.1 is released.
- February 7: iScroll2 is released to enable two-fingered scrolling on iBook G4 and Aluminum PowerBook G4 models with ADB-based trackpads.
- February 9: Mac OS X 10.3.8 (Panther) is released.
- February 14: YouTube is founded.
- February 22: iPod Updater 2005-02-22 is released for early iPod models, and Security Update 2005-002 is released for users of Mac OS X 10.3.4 to 10.3.8 (Panther).
- February 23: The 2nd-generation iPod mini with capacity up to 6 GB is released. A 30 GB version of the iPod photo is released at a lower price while the 40 GB version is retired.
March 2005[]
- March 15: The short-lived "Google X" webpage experiment is launched.
- March 18: Apple Store St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, Florida is the 103rd Apple retail store to be opened.
- March 20: The Qingdao Apple User Group is established with the support of Sinomac in China.
- March 21: The iPod Camera Connector is released for devices with 30-pin dock connectors, and Security Update 2005-003 is released for Mac OS X.
April 2005[]
- April 15: Mac OS X 10.3.9, the final version of "Panther", is released.
- April 18: Adobe Systems announces that it has reached an agreement to acquire Macromedia.
- April 23: The first video is uploaded to the new YouTube website.
- April 29: Apple Computer releases Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and Apple Remote Desktop 2.2.
May 2005[]
- May 16: Mac OS X 10.4.1 (Tiger) is released.
- May 21: Apple Store Yorkdale in Toronto, Canada is the 106th Apple retail store to be opened.
June 2005[]
- June 6-10: The 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference is held at the Moscone Center West Hall in San Francisco, where CEO Steve Jobs announced that Apple will transition Macs to Intel processors, starting in 2006.
- June 21: Virtual PC 7.0.2, the final update for PowerPC Macs, is released by Microsoft.
- June 28: A U2 Special Edition of the iPod photo is released, along with with iTunes 4.9. The 4th-generation iPod also gains the color display of the iPod photo as the product lines are merged.
July 2005[]
- July 12: Mac OS X 10.4.2 (Tiger) is released. The iPodLounge review website is rebranded as iLounge.
August 2005[]
- August 2: The wired USB Mighty Mouse is released.
September 2005[]
- September 7: The first iPod nano, the Harry Potter Collector's Edition iPod, and iTunes 5 are released at a special music event titled "It's Showtime". The iPod mini is discontinued.
- September 15: The Transmission BitTorrent client is released for Mac OS X.
- September 20-24: Apple Expo 2005 is held in Paris, France.
- September 30: Creatures Exodus is released for Mac OS X.
October 2005[]
- October 12: The iPod with video is announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at a special event in Cupertino. The iMac G5 is updated with an iSight webcam and external Apple USB Modem. The Apple Universal Dock is released, and the iPod mini Dock is discontinued. The eMac is withdrawn from retail sale.
- October 14: Apple Computer announces that Tony Fadell will succeed Jon Rubinstein as senior VP of the iPod division.
- October 31: Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Tiger) is released.
November 2005[]
- November 16: Cisco Systems fails to put their "iPhone" trademark into use by their filing deadline in the United States.
December 2005[]
- December 3: Adobe Systems completes its acquisition of Macromedia.
- December 8: Samorost 2 is released for Mac OS X.
- December 9: coconutBattery 2.0 is released for Mac OS X.
