The following Apple-related events occurred or were scheduled in 2012:

March 3: The first Apple retail store in the Netherlands is opened.
March 7: New Apple CEO Tim Cook hosts “It’s Showtime”, the first Apple event after Steve Jobs’s death. The new 3rd-generation iPad is announced, and the 3rd-generation Apple TV is released with Apple TV Software 5.0. An update to iOS 5.1 is released. Pages for iOS is also updated to version 1.6.
March 10: Support ends for Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.
March 16: Apple releases "The new iPad" (3rd generation) with Retina display and the Apple A5X chip.

April 5: Critical Hit Software releases Jigsaw Puzzle for iOS.
April 9: Construction Simulator 2012 is released for Mac OS X.
April 25: Tickets to the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference go on sale at 8:30 A.M. and sell out in about 2 hours.

June 1: Intaglio SketchPad 2.0 is released for iOS.
June 11–15: The 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference is held. During the keynote event on the first day, Apple releases a new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and announces iOS 6.
June 13: Intaglio SketchPad 2.0.1 is released for iOS.
June 19: Apple releases the 2nd-generation AirPort Express.
June 25: gfxCardStatus 2.2.1 is released.
June 26: A dedicated Apple Podcasts app is released for iOS.
June 28: Apple announces the retirement of senior VP of technologies Bob Mansfield, who would be succeeded by new senior VP of hardware engineering Dan Riccio.
June 30: MobileMe is discontinued and replaced by iCloud.

September 12: Apple announces the iPhone 5, 5th-generation iPod touch, 7th-generation iPod nano, and EarPods in a special event. The 6th-generation iPod nano, the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, and the 8 GB version of the iPhone 3GS are discontinued.
September 15: The first Apple retail store in Sweden is opened in Täby.
September 18: Pro Pool 2012 and Pro Snooker 2012 are released for iOS through the Apple App Store.
September 19: iOS 6 is released to the public, along with Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) and 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
September 20: The 32 and 64 GB versions of the iPhone 4S are discontinued.
September 21: The iPhone 5 is released.
September 23: gfxCardStatus 2.3 is released.
September 27: Bad Piggies is released for iOS and Mac OS X.

October 3: Xcode 4.5.1 is released.
October 4: iFile is released as a 3rd-party file management app for iOS 6.
October 11: The 5th-generation iPod touch is released.
October 23: Apple announces the 4th-generation iPad and first iPad mini in a special event, along with a new Mac mini, 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, and thinner iMac.
October 27: The Apple Palo Alto retail store is moved to a larger custom-designed glass building in Palo Alto, California.
October 29: Apple announces the departure of senior VP of iOS software Scott Forstall and the reorganization of its executive management team.

November 2: The 4th-generation iPad and 1st-generation iPad mini Wi-Fi-only models are released.
November 8: Angry Birds Star Wars and Hill Climb Racing are released for iOS through the Apple App Store.
November 16: The 4th-generation iPad and 1st-generation iPad mini Wi-Fi + cellular models are released. The Apple Yorkdale retail store is moved to a larger space in the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, Canada.
November 30: The 21.5-inch version of the "Slim Unibody" iMac is released in a thinner profile without an optical drive.

December 1: The Apple Yorkdale retail store is re-opened in a larger space at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, Canada.
December 4: Pages for Mac OS X and iOS are updated to versions 4.3 and 1.7, respectively.
December 11: A port of Roblox for iOS is released through the Apple App Store.
December 20: Apple distinguished scientist Richard Crandall passes away. Cooking Mama Seasons Pro and Intaglio SketchPad 2.1 are released for iOS.
