The AirPods Max is a line of high-end over-ear headphones designed by Apple Inc.

Original (Lightning)[]
The original AirPods Max was announced on December 8, 2020 and was released on December 15th in the following week. It featured an Apple H1 chip in each ear cup that paired over Bluetooth, and was charged through a Lightning port. It was available in green, pink, silver, sky blue, Space Gray.[1]
USB-C[]
On September 9, 2024, the updated AirPods Max was announced, featuring a USB-C port with improved charging capabilities. However, it still used the same H1 chips as the original version. It became available on the following September 20th in blue, midnight, orange, purple, and starlight.[2]
Features[]
- Aluminium cups encase speakers with ear cushions that are lined with a special mesh, giving users a plushy, comfortable hearing environment. Each mesh has a sign saying which aluminium cup is for which ear, using a simple "L" or "R" letter.
- Extendable metal arms can be pulled up and down to fit the height and the width of the user's head.
- First introduced on the AirPods Pro, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) provides improved sound quality while Transparency Mode allows users to hear outside sound to maintain situational awareness.[3]
- Spatial audio utilizes a gyroscope and accelerometer to spatially adjust audio to relative to the user's head orientation.
- First introduced with the Apple Watch, the Digital Crown allows users to adjust volume, switch playlists, take calls, and ask Siri for help.[4]
