Apple Arcade is a video game subscription service by Apple for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, and macOS devices.[1] It was first announced during an special event on March 25, 2019, and launched on September 19, 2019.[2][3] It is also available as part of Apple One.[4]
Features[]
Features for Apple Arcade include:[5][6]
- Supported on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS.
- Users can carry over in-game progress between all devices linked to the same iCloud account. This means you can quit on a game on your iPhone and continue with your iPad.
- No ads, in-app purchases, always-on DRM, or data tracking.
- Up to six family members are allowed access through family sharing.
- Various game controllers are supported, such as the DualShock 4 and Xbox One controllers.
Exclusivity[]
To qualify for Apple Arcade's subscription service as an "exclusive" title:[7]
- The game must not be available for Android.
- The game must not be on another subscription service, such as Google Play Pass or Xbox Game Pass.
"Plus" versions (denoted with a "+" at the end of the name) may have additional features included, such as inclusion of all downloadable content (DLCs), no ads, and other extras to distinguish it as an "exclusive" over pre-existing versions of the game.[8] Some game projects were also cancelled due to lack of "engagement", though developers were still paid up through milestones that were met.[9]
