The Apple Club was a short-lived online subscription service from Apple Computer.
History[]
The service was announced at Macworld Expo on January 7, 1997 and was available in the United States for US$19.95 per year. According to senior vice president Mike Dionne, Apple Club was positioned as a "diamond lane service" with online access to software updates, utilities, patches, and extensions along with exclusive discounts on products and services.[1] Members also received an Apple Club CD-ROM.[2]
Discontinuation[]
The Apple Club was criticized for providing download speeds from member-exclusive servers that were no better, or in some cases, worse than speeds provided by Apple's own publicly available servers. Support was limited to e-mail.[3] By January 1998, the club was no longer in service.[4]
