Apple Glendale Galleria is an Apple Store located in Glendale, California, USA. It opened for business in 2001 as Apple's second retail store and is internally identified as R001.[1]

Location[]

This Apple Store is presently situated within the Glendale Galleria mall at 2126 Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California. It is normally open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day except Sundays, when it is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its hours on Monday to Thursday have been reduced to 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

History[]

The store was designed in secret by architect Art Gensler in direct collaboration with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.[2] Two mall-based stores, one each at Tysons Corner in Virginia and Glendale Galleria in California, held their grand openings on May 19, 2001. Though the Glendale Galleria location had been designated "R001", the store at Tysons Corner (designated "R010") had actually opened first by being in a more easterly time zone by 3 hours.[3]

Incidents[]

On March 14, 2020, this store was initially closed during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] It was first reopened on June 17, 2020.[5] It then reclosed on July 2nd due to the resurgence of the pandemic.[6] It was reopened once again on September 11, 2020.[7]

Sister location[]

On July 30, 2011, another Apple Store was opened at The Americana at Brand mall across the street in a larger space that was only about 500 to 600 feet away, making them the two closest Apple Stores in proximity.[8][9]
