What is an Apple ID? - Apple Support
An Apple ID account is used by Apple to authenticate users of its devices, such as Apple TV, Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac, as well as allowing them to log into its services, such as iCloud, iTunes, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, Apple News+, Apple TV+, and Apple One.
Security[]
An Apple ID can help protect the contents of an Apple device that has been lost or stolen through Activation Lock.[1] For additional security, Apple recommends enabling two-factor authentication to reduce the risk of an account being compromised or hacked.[2]
