Apple Tysons Corner is an Apple Store located in McLean, Virginia, USA. It opened for business in 2001 as Apple's first retail store and is internally identified as R010.[1]

This Apple Store is presently situated within the Tysons Corner Center mall at 1961 Chain Bridge Road in McLean. It is normally open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day except Sundays, when it is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its hours on Monday to Thursday have been reduced to 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The store was designed in secret by architect Art Gensler in direct collaboration with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.[2] The Tysons Corner location held its grand opening on on May 19, 2001. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs personally presented a tour of the store that was broadcast to attendees of the 2001 Worldwide Developers Conference. Though the Apple Glendale Galleria had been designated "R001" and held its grand opening on the same day, the store at Tysons Corner had actually opened first by being in a more easterly time zone by 3 hours.[3]

On March 14, 2020, this store was initially closed during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] It was first reopened on June 24, 2020.[5] It then reclosed on July 26 due to the resurgence of the pandemic.[6] It was reopened once again on August 26, 2020.[7]

New location[]

A report filed with Fairfax County in 2019 indicated that Apple had been in the process of developing a much larger space nearby at Tysons Galleria. It was not clear at the time whether the new location would supplement or replace the existing store at the Tysons Corner Center.[8] At the end of April 2023, Tysons Corner Center announced that Apple was moving the store to a larger "reimagined" space within the same shopping mall.[9] The new location opened on May 19th, the 22nd anniversary of its original grand opening.[10][11]
