Barack Hussein Obama II (born August 4, 1961) was the 44th president of the United States from January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017. His vice president, Joe Biden, would later become the 46th president.
History with Apple[]
Obama was president during the tenures of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook as the CEOs of Apple Inc. During a meeting in October 2010, Jobs made a case to Obama that education needed to be improved to address the shortage of industrial engineers needed to bring more manufacturing jobs back into the United States.[1] In October 2011, days before Jobs' death, Obama revealed that Jobs had gifted him an iPad 2 prior to its release.[2]
In March 2016, Obama contended that mobile devices, such as iPhones, should be designed with "backdoors" to provide access to government investigators. However, Apple has declined to comply in order to protect customer privacy.[3]
