Apple in Brazil[]

The first Apple retail store in Brazil and Latin America was opened on February 15, 2014 at the VillageMall shopping complex in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.[2] In early 2020, all 2 stores in the country were temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3].

In 2022, Foxconn Brazil started to assemble the iPhone 13 for Apple in the Jundiaí municipality of São Paulo.[4] One of the avenues in the area was named after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.[5] In September 2022, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security of Brazil ordered Apple to stop selling iPhones without a power adapter, citing it as a "deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers". Apple appealed the ruling stating "we consider our impact on people and the planet in everything we do". [6] In October 2022, Apple was fined R$100 million by the Court of Justice of São Paulo for the same practice. [7]
