The Brightness control panel was developed by Apple Computer for use by the Macintosh Classic and backlit Macintosh Portable.
Usage[]
Included with System 6.0.7 and 7.0.x, its sole purpose is to set the brightness of the screen, or to dim it, on early Macintosh models without a physical brightness switch. Any attempt to use this control panel on any other model will result in an error message and the control panel will not open.
History[]
This functionality was included as part of the Portable control panel 1.3 for earlier versions of System 6.[1][2] In System 7.1, the Brightness control panel was superseded by the Screen control panel for newer models with built-in color screens.[3]
