Development[]
Work began on Crashlands as Sam Coster of Butterscotch Shenanigans received a cancer diagnosis in 2013. He was determined to make the game "the last thing I ever made" with with brothers Adam and Seth. Fortunately, Sam survived through chemotherapy and the project was greenlit through Steam.[1]
Reception[]
Crashlands was positively received and was named the 2016 game of the year by TouchArcade and GameZebo.[2][3]
Releases[]
Crashlands was first released for iOS and Android on January 20, 2016. The version for Windows was released through Steam the following day on January 21st. A version for Linux was released on December 18, 2017, and a downloadable version for the Nintendo Switch was released on November 9, 2018. Versions for the Xbox One and Series X and S were released on January 29, 2021.[4]
Apple Arcade version[]
A variant for Apple Arcade was released on January 14, 2022 under the title Crashlands+ without ads and the need for in-app purchases.[5]
