Daniel John "Dan" Riccio, Jr. (born c. 1963) is a vice president of engineering at Apple Inc. He was previously the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, but he stepped down from the role in January 2021 to oversee unspecified AR and VR projects at Apple.[1][2]
Education
Riccio entered the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1981 and received a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1986.[3]
Career
Riccio joined Compaq in 1997,[3] where he became a senior manager of mechanical engineering and was responsible for the mechanical design of consumer PC products.[4]
Apple Computer
In 1998, Riccio joined Apple Computer as vice president of product design.[3]
Apple Inc.
In April 2010, Riccio became vice president of the iPad division.[3] In August 2012, he became Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering upon the retirement of Bob Mansfield. His responsibilities included the engineering teams for the AirPods, Apple TV, Apple Watch, HomePod, iPad, iPhone, and Mac product lines.[5][6]
On January 25, 2021, Riccio began transitioning to a new undisclosed project and was succeeded as senior VP by John Ternus.[7] Riccio continues to report directly to CEO Tim Cook, and reportedly took over the development of augmented reality and virtual reality headsets which had previously stalled.[1][8]
Other work
Riccio and his wife Diane M. Casey are philanthropic supporters of neuroscience research at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School.[9][10]
