The Dark Sky Company LLC is the developer of the popular Dark Sky Weather app. The company was acquired by Apple on March 31, 2020.[1]
History[]
Dark Sky Weather was introduced for iOS in April 2012.[2] The Android version was shut down on August 1, 2020 and paid users received full refunds.[3] Its features and API were integrated into Apple's own Weather app with the release of iOS 15 in 2021. However, remaining iOS users of Dark Sky Weather will continue to receive updates until the end of 2022.[4] Apple allows other developers to use the API (now known as WeatherKit) for their own meteorological apps, though direct clones, such as Darker Sky, have been shut down.[5]
