DiskWarrior is a disk repair utility published by Alsoft for classic Mac OS and Mac OS X. However, it does not support rebuilding of APFS-formatted drives.

History[]

First released in November 1998, DiskWarrior supports data recovery and the rebuilding of HFS Plus (Mac OS Extended) drives.[2]

Diskwarrior 3.0 2003 May Introduces Mac OS X native directory rebuilding and hardware monitoring of impending drive device failure.
Diskwarrior 4.0 2006 December First Universal binary release works with both Intel and PowerPC Macs. Includes a suite of tests to fix problems, repairs invalid file permissions, and identifies corrupted preference (.plist) files.
Diskwarrior 4.1 2008 January Adds Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) compatibility along with ability to repair damaged directory hard links.
Diskwarrior 4.2 2009 August Adds Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) compatibility along with 64-bit support.
Diskwarrior 4.3 2011 February Adds Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) compatibility and improved repair performance.
Diskwarrior 4.4 2011 September Adds compatibility and performance improvements.
Diskwarrior 5.0 2014 December Complete 64-bit rewrite with new architecture, features, interface, and performance improvements.[3]
Diskwarrior 5.1 2018 April Initial support for Apple File System (APFS) in Preview (no rebuilding).
Diskwarrior 5.2 2018 September Support for Secure Boot, macOS Mojave (10.14) and Catalina (10.15).[4]
Diskwarrior 5.3 TBA Support for macOS Big Sur (11) and Apple M1 processors.[5]

APFS support[]

Alsoft stated that support for the Apple File System (APFS) in macOS High Sierra (10.13) and later has been delayed due to limited documentation about the drive format from Apple Inc. All new purchases require acknowledging a disclaimer of these circumstances.[5]
