Edward G. "Ed" Ruder (born c.1960) is a software engineer who was the 29th employee at Apple Computer.
Early life and education[]
Ruder learned BASIC as a young student in the 1970s and was coding in 6502 assembly language in high school.[1] He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory of San Jose in 1978 and received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University in 1982.[2]

Apple Computer[]
Ruder started working part-time for Apple Computer in December of 1977, in the offices at 20863 Stevens Creek Blvd., while he finished his senior year at Bellarmine. Ruder worked full-time for Apple during the summers of 1978 and 1979, in the production department.
After graduating from Santa Clara University in 1982, Ruder formed Encore Systems with Randy Wigginton and Don Breuner. The company, which was later renamed The Software Department, entered into a contract with Apple to create MacWrite.[2]

In 1992, Ruder joined Storm Technology to develop software to manipulate full-color images on desktop computers. In December 1998, he joined Intuit to work on QuickBooks. In January 2012, he joined Square, Inc. Ruder was most recently the vice president of engineering at Apto Payments from September 2019 to November 2021.[2]
