"Google X" was a short-lived experimental web page that was posted by Google Labs on March 15, 2005. It is unrelated to the Google subsidiary of the same name that was formed in 2010 and is now known simply as X.[1][2]

History
Google X consisted of the standard Google search engine page, but added a row of icons that resembled the Dock from Mac OS X and mimicked its magnification feature. The fine print at the bottom of the page stated: "Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you."[3][4]
The page was taken down one day later on March 16th with no statement by Google or Apple Computer. The media speculated that Google had taken down the page due to potential legal issues with Apple, which had applied for patent protection of the Dock feature.[3][4][5] Some websites had mirrored the page which had been taken down.[6]
