Preliminary reports[]

A major new feature speculated for iOS 17 is support for 3rd-party app stores, to comply with the new Digital Markets Act in the European Union.[6] Dynamic Island features are also reported to be expanded as it is expected to be included with all iPhone 15 models.[7]

Supported Devices[]

iOS 17 requires an A12 Bionic processor or later, which means that support is dropped for the the iPhone 8/8 Plus, as well as the iPhone X. Certain devices with an A12 or A13 chip, including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS/XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max, and the iPhone SE (2nd generation), all have limited support. The following devices below are supported with iOS 17.[8]

  • This is the third version of iOS to drop support for older 64-bit devices.
  • Due to iOS 17 dropping support for the iPhone X, this is the first version of iOS to drop support for an iPhone model with Face ID.
  • The iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generations) are the only supported models to feature a home button.
  • Before iOS 17 was previewed, some rumors have suggested that iOS 17 would be supported on all devices that supported iOS 16.
