The 5th generation iPad Pro, also known as iPad Pro (2021), was announced by Apple on April 20, 2021. Pre-orders began on April 30 with general availability by May 21, 2021.[1][2]

New features

The 2021 iPad Pro features the faster Apple M1 processor, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with optional 5G connectivity, Thunderbolt support, and up to 2 TB of storage. The 12.9-inch version features a Liquid Retina XDR display that adopts mini-LED technology in a downsized version of the Pro Display XDR.[3]

According to Apple engineers, the mini-LED display incorporated a "whole new level of engineering" that required the thickness of the 12.9-inch model to become 0.5 mm thicker than the previous generation. Mini-LED has not yet been incorporated in the 11-inch model as those users were described as being more concerned about size and weight of the device.[4]
