The iPad mini 3 is the third generation of the small iPad mini tablet devices from Apple Inc. It was announced along with the iPad Air 2 on October 16, 2014 during the It's been way too long event and released on October 22.


Unlike its predecessor, which was only came in a Silver or Space Gray finish, the iPad mini 3 was also available in Gold. It shipped with iOS 8 and Apple Pay. It is powered by a 64-bit Apple A7 chip, which is also used in the iPhone 5S, 1st generation iPad Air, and its predecessor, the iPad mini 2. It also comes with a M7 motion processor. It claims to have up to 10 hours of battery life.

The main new addition over the iPad mini 2 is Touch ID. It also contains two antennas and MIMO technology to give iPad mini 3 improved Wi-Fi performance, with another model including cellular connectivity. A Smart Cover made of polyurethane or leather can be used to protect it. The price started at $399, $100 dollars more than the base price of the preceding model.


The iPad mini 3 was succeeded by the iPad mini 4 on September 9, 2015.
