The iPhone 16 is a new line of iPhones developed by Apple for release on September 20, 2024.
Announcement and release[]
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models were announced with the Apple A18 chip and new Apple Intelligence features at a special event titled "It's Glowtime" on September 9, 2024.[1] Each feature 48 megapixel "Fusion" cameras and the addition of the action button and Camera Control.[2]
Also announced were the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max with lightweight titanium construction and the Apple A18 Pro chip. The new models became available for pre-order on September 13th.[1]
Supply chain reports[]
Preliminary industry reports indicated that Apple was manufacturing the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus with a new vertical dual-camera arrangement resembling the configuration last used by the iPhone XS. Dummy models being provided to case manufacturers indicated that the models would feature screen sizes of 6.1 inches for the base iPhone 16, 6.7 inches for the iPhone 16 Plus, 6.3 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro, and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. A new "Camera Control" button was expected to control new photo or video features under iOS 18.[3]
Supply chain reports in October 2024 indicated that Apple had shifted iPhone production by reducing iPhone 16 orders by 10 million units as demand was actually stronger for iPhone 16 Pro models.[4]
