The iPhone 6 Plus is a plus-sized flagship smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It was announced on September 9, 2014 with the iPhone 6 as the latest flagship iPhone of 2014. It was released on the following September 19th. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus jointly serve as successors to the iPhone 5C and 5S. It was the predecessor of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Description[]
The iPhone 6 Plus was the first plus-sized iPhone model that was released by Apple. It features a larger 5.5 inch LCD Retina Display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The iPhone has a larger battery capacity of 2915 mAh battery compared to the 1810 mAh battery on the iPhone 6. One exclusive feature for the iPhone 6 Plus is the landscape mode where you can use the iPhone while holding it sideways. It has an 8MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 1.2MP selfie camera. [1]
The processor this iPhone runs on is a 64-bit Apple A8 processor with 1GB of RAM. It comes with iOS 8 installed, and it can be updated to iOS 12.5.7 as for the latest iOS it can run on. The storage options it came with is 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Along with the iPhone 6, it is the first iPhone models to come with a 128GB storage option.
Bendgate[]
The section right below the volume down button and SIM tray was very fragile and could bend easily when being put under pressure. Users who put their iPhone 6 Plus in their back pocket reported having a bent device when taken out. The issue was dubbed as "Bendgate". The bendgate went viral across the internet, and Apple was criticised for the iPhone's poor build quality. This issue was fixed with the iPhone 6s Plus as it is a lot stronger and is less likely to bend from the same amount of force it takes to bend the iPhone 6 Plus.
Although it looks like that you could very easily bend the device, you'd actually have to apply a lot of pressure to the frame in order to bend it. This bending issue was sometimes over exaggerated by the media since they made it sound like the iPhone bend really easily. The issue was resolved for the future iPhone plus models to have a less chance of bending. It is recommended to never sit or put any excessive pressure on the iPhone so the chassis wouldn't bend.
Release[]
Pre-orders of the iPhone 6 Plus exceeded four million within its first 24 hours of availability—an Apple record. More than ten million iPhone 6 Plus devices were sold in the first three days, another Apple record.
On September 9, 2015, the 128 GB version of the iPhone 6 Plus was discontinued along with the gold version. The 16 GB and 64 GB versions of the iPhone 6 Plus in silver and space gray were available for sale at a reduced price due to the release of the iPhone 6s Plus. The iPhone 6 Plus was discontinued in 2016 upon the announcement of the iPhone 7.
The iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus are the best selling iPhone model with over 222.4 million units sold. [2]
