Support
The reader works with any Apple device with a Lightning port. It supports MicroSD and MiniSD adapters, making it useful for users who also own an Android device.
History
The Lightning to SD card reader was originally released in October 2012 and supported USB 2.0 transfer rates that were significantly faster than the preceding iPad Camera Connection Kit.[1]
The reader was updated with a slightly larger version in December 2015 that is capable of faster transfer rates on newer Apple devices (such as the iPad Pro) that support USB 3.0 connections over the Lightning port, but at the expense of reduced battery life.[2]
Users found that the reader stopped working on devices that had upgraded to iOS 13, which was released in September 2019. However, the problem was found to have been resolved by iOS 13.3 or later.[3]
