macOS Sonoma

macOS Sonoma (version 14) is the twentieth major release of macOS developed by Apple Inc. It was announced on June 5th at the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2023).[1]

New features[]

  • Game mode — more dedicated CPU/GPU performance in games.
  • Safari — new ability to lock unused browser windows/keep them private, a new profiles option to separate work and personal content, and even the new ability to make web apps for the Dock.
  • Video conferencing — new effects and ability to show content separate from your face.
  • Widgets - updated to add widgets to the desktop, and added a new widget gallery.

macOS Sonoma supports Mac models that were introduced in December 2017 or later:[2]

Installation[]

Supported systems can upgrade directly to the latest macOS release from versions as old as macOS 10.15 (Catalina). Upgrading to intermediate major releases (such as Sonoma after subsequent macOS releases) can be accomplished by following one of the links on this Apple Support page.[3]
