2001-2 Mac OS X 10.1.5 (Puma)

Mac OS X 10.1.5 is the fifth and final update to Mac OS X 10.1.x "Puma" that was developed by Apple Computer. The build numbers vary: 5S60 is the build number for the original 10.1.5 update that was released on June 4, 2002.[1] Build 5S66 is the number following the installation of Networking Update 1.0, and 5T91 was the final build that was released on June 26, 2002 to address networking issues on certain Macs, notably iMac G4s.[2]

Improvements[]

  • Expanded support is here for the new Canon digital cameras, for SmartDisk, EZQuest, and LaCie disc recording devices; improved support has arrived for Nikon FireWire cameras and MO drives.
  • Mail and Sherlock are now more stable with the new release, and updated Carbon apps can now benefit from Quartz (rather than Carbon/Mac OS 8.5) anti-aliasing technology for more lifelike text display.
  • AFP networking when accessing multi-level directories on Windows NT file servers has been improved, and the April 2002 Security Update has been included with this update.
  • iDisk usage is zippier, and WebDAV volumes can now be mounted from a non-standard HTTP port.
  • Significant updates to the Korean Input Method have been made, especially when using AppleWorks, and Internet Connect and AirPort apps have been updated with localisations in Chinese and Korean.
  • This release marked the beginning of the ability for OS X to be installed on external FireWire drives and sucessfully boot from that volume.
