Mac OS X 10.2.5 (Jaguar "Plaid") is an update for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) that was released by Apple Computer on April 10, 2003.

Specific enhancements[]

Mac OS X 10.2.5 fixed quite a large number of bugs and other problems.

Bluetooth-wise, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant utility now works with certain Microsoft keyboards and mice, and Bluetooths upport for Nokia 7650 and P800 phones were included.

CD burning and image-wise, discs burned with certain Panasonic consumer burners got a compatibility enhancement, and Image Capture now adds support for Canon EOS 10D, ZR65 and ZR 70 cameras. Various CD burners from LaCie, Visual Frontier, MacPower and BUSlink were supported as of this release.

Network and Internet enhancements were also seen with this release. Cases where domain name lookups could fail if the DNS server responded with an excessive reply packet, where Internet Sharing could become problematic when certain types of DSL or cable modem connections were shared, and where some Apple internal modems were unable to establish or maintain a connection to certain Scandinavian ISPs, were solved. The way that LDAPv3 connections time out when idle were improved, and a potential data loss risk was neutralised (it could previously strike when copying certain files to an SMB volume). Security improvements were effectuated by resolving an issue where a guest could gain read access, remotely, to the contents of a shared Drop Box folder, and the Internet preferences pane of System Preferences now can store .Mac passwords up to 32 characters long.

Mail also received an improvement or two. Mail's selection of character encoding for messages sent in Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Thai, Turkish and Ukranian were improved, and Mail is now more responsive for accounts configured with multiple POP servers when the servers are not available.

Classic previously used to refuse to start (along with an error 1016) when application programs available to a non-administrator were restricted; this problem is corrected as of this release. Amongst other Classic fixes: the Classic environment is no longer unresponsive after placing a Classic app's save confirmation dialogue box in the background, and the reliability of Apple Events traffic was improved between apps running in the Classic environment and native Mac OS X. In addition, users can now logout after using a Mac OS 9 version of America Online. The short-lived keystroke command - option - shift - Q, which formerly used to directly quit (instantaneously) all running Classic apps, is gone as of this release.

Miscellaneous bug-fixes included various printing problems, and the update fixed bugs cropping up with damaged GIF or unopenable PICT images. Issues where the date was unexpectedly set back to 1969 or 1970 were solved, and an issue dealing with the Hanin input method for Traditional Chinese was solved.
