"Sorbet Leopard" is the nickname of Mac OS X 10.5.9, an unofficial build of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) that was first released on October 31, 2021 to provide continued support solely for PowerPC Macs. It combines elements of Mac OS X 10.5.8, the PowerPC beta of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and PowerPC binaries extracted from Universal portions of Mac OS X 10.6.8, while removing unneeded Intel binaries to streamline the system for improved PowerPC performance.[1]

Update history[]
- Sorbet Leopard Revision 1.4 was released on on November 11, 2021. It integrated PowerPC-compatible updates from Mac OS X 10.6.8 and addressed various issues.[4]
- Sorbet Leopard Revision 1.5 was released on May 2, 2022 with its own "Sorbet Leopard App Store". Among the available apps is "Monolingual", a tool to help reduce the drive footprint of Sorbet Leopard by removing localization files for unneeded languages.[5] Some users later found that
libsqlite3.0.dylib
would cause some stability and performance issues in some configurations; this can be replaced withlibsqlite3.dylib
from WebKit for OS X Leopard.[6] As these are not official updates, a fresh install is required each time. Migration Assistant can be used, though Carbon Copy Cloner is recommended for the process after backing up personal files.[7]
