Mac Sharing Mode is the successor to Target Disk Mode on Macs based on Apple Silicon processors, starting in November 2020 with the Apple M1 processor.

Usage[]

Mac Sharing Mode can be accessed from the startup options of Macs based on Apple Silicon processors and allows its internal drive to be accessed from another Mac like an external drive. The underlying technology is based on the SMB protocol over USB or Thunderbolt connections. However, a password is still required for access to files on protected drives.[1][2]
