The Macintosh Quadra 950 was released by Apple Computer on May 18, 1992 as the new flagship of the Macintosh Quadra series, replacing the Quadra 900 which had been released about 7 months earlier.
Features[]
The Quadra 950 was based around a 33 MHz Motorola 68040 processor, allowing apps to run up to 30% faster than the preceding Quadra 700 and 900. Its SCSI hard drive set a new record data transfer rate of 3,800 KB per second.
It shared the same tower case design as the Quadra 900 and weighed 36 pounds without a monitor. The built-in video could support up to 2 MB of VRAM, which could output 24-bit color at 832 x 624 or 16-bit color at 1152 x 870. Its memory could be expanded to 32 times the original size, from 8 MB to 256 MB.
The Quadra 950 was discontinued on October 14, 1995 and superseded by the Power Macintosh 9500. Despite its numbering, it was neither the fastest nor last Quadra model.
