The Apple Monitor III (stylized as  monitor ///) was announced alongside the Apple III on May 19, 1980. However, it was not released until September 1980. It was discontinued along with the Apple III plus in September 1985. It is noted as being Apple's first monitor.[1]

Description[]

The Monitor III featured a 12-inch green or white phosphor cathode-ray tube display with a viewable area of 10.5 inches containing 560 x 162 pixels capable of displaying 24 rows of 80 characters. The display was originally manufactured by Sanyo, but later monitors were manufactured by Hitachi.[2][3] It was noted for featuring a very thin mesh over the CRT to reduce the amount of glare on the screen when viewing.[1]

Connector[]

The Monitor III uses a traditional composite video connector, allowing it be used with other computer systems, including the Apple II series.
