System Preferences 10

The Mouse preferences pane while trying to locate a Bluetooth mouse in macOS 10.15

The Mouse pane of the System Preferences in macOS was developed by Apple to allow users to customize the settings of a mouse (or trackball) connected to their Mac. Additional features for gestures are enabled when a Magic Mouse is paired.

For universal access features for users with disabilities, use the Accessibility preference pane.[1]

History[]

With the release of Mac OS X, the Mouse preference pane superseded the Mouse and Trackpad control panels from classic Mac OS, combining the features of both with separate tabs.[2]

The functionality was merged with the Keyboard preference pane into a singular Keyboard & Mouse pane to manage keyboards, mice, and trackpads from Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) to 10.5.8 (Leopard). They were all once again separated from Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) onwards, with Trackpad also becoming its own preference pane.[3]
