Navigation Services is a new form of the Open and Save As dialog boxes, which are used when opening and saving documents. It was introduced in Mac OS 8.5.

Novelties[]

With Navigation Services, the user can use Shortcuts, Favorites and Recent items. There is direct access to frequently used shortcuts (the Desktop, Network and mounted volumes), as well as user-defined favorites, which can actually be modified on the fly. Recently used items are also displayed. All these three functions are part of three buttons -- the pointing finger, the folder with a bookmark, and the clock, respectively.

Hierarchy triangles[]

Hierarchy triangles (or "flippy triangles") show or conceal the contents of folders and volumes. These triangles now also appear in Navigation Services.

Interface[]

Navigation Services uses an updated interface, in line with the Platinum interface of Mac OS 8.5.
