The Network Software Selector is a utility, found only on Power Macintosh 6100, 7100 and 8100 computers under Mac OS 8.5, Mac OS 8.5.1 and Mac OS 8.6, if Open Transport was installed.

The sole use of this tiny utility was to switch between Classic AppleTalk networking and Open Transport.

It also controlled whether the MacTCP control panel or TCP/IP control panel should be visible and ready for use. (The former is used only with classic AppleTalk networking; the later, only with Open Transport.)
