A netbook running Mac OS X.

OSx86 is a computer hacking project that allows users to run Mac OS X (and its successors, such as macOS) on standard Windows PCs by installing specially prepared software from a downloaded .iso disk image file.

A non-Apple computer running Mac software from the OSx86 Project is referred to as a Hackintosh, replacing "Mac" with "Hack".[1] Similarly configured notebooks are known as Hackbooks.

This project started soon after the 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference, when Steve Jobs announced Apple's transition to Intel processors.[1]
