Paul Mercer (born 1967) is a former employee of Apple Computer that founded Pixo, the developer behind the Pixo operating system that was used in early iPods.[1][2]

Early life and education[]

Mercer grew up in upstate New York and studied computer science at Syracuse University, where his programming attracted the attention of Apple Computer.[2]

Mercer joined Apple in 1987. His projects included updating the Finder for System 7 and managing the development of the early PenLite tablet. After the PenLite was shelved in August 1993,[3] Mercer joined the Newton Systems Group and worked on Newton OS. He left Apple in 1994.[2][4]

After Apple[]

Mercer founded Tacit Software in 1994, which became Pixo and grew to over 100 developers and was sold to Sun Microsystems in 2003. In 2000, he also founded Iventor, which was hired by Samsung in 2005. In 2007, Iventor was acquired by Palm, where Mercer served as a "Prima" architect.[2][5]
