A personal digital assistant (PDA) refers to a small hand-held computer or mobile device typically providing calendar, contacts, and note-taking software but may include other applications, for example a web browser and media player. Small keyboards and/or stylus-based touchscreen systems are commonly used for user input.[1]

Apple Computer's Newton MessagePad was a very early example for which Apple CEO John Sculley coined the term in 1992.[2]
