Pig-mode is a special mode in ResEdit which makes it constantly purge memory and compact resources. However, the added burden slows the application down. This made was designed primarily for programmers testing custom editors.

Pig-mode can be turned on and off (to the tune of a very cute oink) by pressing command-option-shift while choosing About ResEdit from the Apple menu (when you are in ResEdit). There are two dialog boxes:

  • Start pig-mode? appears when pig-mode is off. A click on OK turns pig-mode on. The corresponding icon is a pig.
  • Stop pig-mode (no Oink)? appears when pig-mode is on. A click on OK turns pig-mode off. The corresponding icon is a circled, crossed-out pig.

The oink can be extracted using ResEdit itself.
