The 17-inch PowerBook G4 was introduced by Apple Computer in January 2003, alongside the 12-inch version. It was promoted as the world's first 17-inch notebook computer.

From its introduction, the PowerBook G4 (17-inch) boasted impressive new features were not seen on any other laptop at the time:

The PowerBook G4 also had built-in wireless (AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth), as well as a full set of ports, including USB, FireWire 400, Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem and a Type II PC Card slot. In 2006 it was superseded by the 17-inch MacBook Pro.
