The Power Macintosh 8500 was a high-end Macintosh personal computer designed, manufactured and sold by Apple Computer from August 8, 1995 until February 17, 1997, and was replaced by the Power Macintosh 8600.

Features[]

Though the 8500 externally resembles the preceding Power Macintosh 8100, it switched from a PowerPC 601 processor on NuBus architecture to a much faster PowerPC 604 processor on PCI architecture.

Releases[]

The first 8500 model that was released on August 8, 1995 featured a 120 MHz PowerPC 604. Updated versions were released on April 22, 1996 with 132 or 150 MHz versions of the 604. On August 5, 1996, a version with a 180 MHz PowerPC 604e was released.

Variants[]

The 120 MHz version was released in Europe and Japan as the Power Macintosh 8515.
