The convention center opened in 1986. The complex includes the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara and the Santa Clara TechMart conference center. It is adjacent to the VTA Great America light rail station and across the street from the Great America theme park.

IBM launched their PS/2 on April 2 at the Hyatt Regency at the same time that Apple's DevCon '87 happened to be underway.[1]

The convention center acquired the Hyatt Regency's ballroom area and expanded it in 2009 as the new Mission City Ballroom.[2][3]
