ScreenSaverApp.png

Not to be confused with a generic screensaver.

Screen Saver, officially known as DemoLoop, is an app that displays a looping screensaver on iOS and iPadOS devices in Apple retail stores and authorized resellers. It is installed by Apple retail employees to prevent screen burn in on demo devices. This app launches every time the device has been inactive for a period of time. Holding 3 fingers on the display at once brings up a secret menu for DemoApp.app, which plays back the file located at Root:/private/var/mobile/Demo.mov. The contents of that file may vary between device and OS versions, as well as time.

Installation

This app can be installed without permission by Apple by pasting itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.8/demoupdate.plist into a web browser and downloading the file. The .ipa file is available from https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.8/demoupdate.ipa

An older version is available from itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.7/demoupdate.plist and https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.7/demoupdate.ipa

An older version is available from itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.6/demoupdate.plist and https://demoupdate.apple.com/install/4.6/demoupdate.ipa

An alternative method for a kiosk-like experience on iPads is to enable Guided Access mode.[1]
