Space Invaders is a classic arcade video game that was developed and published by Taito for iOS, iPadOS, and Android.
Releases[]
The original arcade game was designed in Japan by Tomohiro Nishikado, who was inspired by Steve Wozniak's Breakout from Atari, and H. G. Wells' novel The War of the Worlds.[1] Space Invaders was released in the United States by Midway Manufacturing in 1978. It found immediate success and was ported by Atari to its Atari 2600 console in 1980.[2]
The iPhone OS version was released by Taito on February 27, 2009.[3] Users of iPhone OS 2.x found that the game could not be displayed in resolutions higher than the 480 x 320 pixels of the original iPhone. A separate "HD" version was released on July 15, 2010 for iPads until support was unified in future iOS versions.[4][5][6][7]
