The Republic of Türkiye 🇹🇷 (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti), formerly and still commonly known as Turkey, is a transcontinental country located on the border between Southeastern Europe and Western Asia. The capital is Ankara.

The land area of Türkiye is 769,632 km2. As of 2020, the population is estimated to be 82,017,514, making it the 18th most populous country in the world. [1]

On June 2, 2022, the United Nations recognized the official English name change of "Turkey" to "Türkiye" to reflect the native pronunciation of tur-key-yay and to avoid association with the bird.[2][3]. Apple began referring to the country by its new official name in English-language support documents in February 2023,[4][5] though CEO Tim Cook still referred to it as 'Turkey' in a tweet within that same month.[6]
