Verizon Wireless became the second wireless carrier to support Apple devices, beginning with the CDMA versions of the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 on its 3G network. Up until February 10, 2011, AT&T had been the exclusive carrier for both the iPhone and iPad.[2]

Retirement of 3G service[]

Verizon was originally scheduled to retire its CDMA-based 3G network on December 31, 2019, but then postponed it by one year.[3] The shutdown was postponed again and the network is presently scheduled to go offline on December 31, 2022 to make room for faster 4G and 5G services. This will affect all older iPhone models that do not support Voice over LTE (iPhone 5C, 5S and earlier). This will also affect the CDMA version of the iPad 2.[4][5]
