watchOS 2 is the second major release of watchOS for the Apple Watch series developed and distributed by Apple Inc. It was announced at the 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference alongside iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan.

Product history[]

watchOS 2 is derived from iOS 9; both were announced on June 8, 2015 during the keynote address at WWDC 2015, when it became available to developers. It was released to the public on September 21, 2015.
