watchOS 8 is the eighth major release of watchOS for the Apple Watch series developed and distributed by Apple Inc.
Product history[]
watchOS 8 is derived from iOS 15; both were announced on June 7 at the 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference and released on September 20, 2021.[2][3]
Supported models[]
Models that could run watchOS 7 are supported by watchOS 8, though not all features may be available on older models. An iPhone 6S or later running at least iOS 15 are also required to support the following models:
- Apple Watch Series 3 (limited support)
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch SE
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 (new model)
