Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 (or WWDC 2021 or WWDC21) is the 32nd annual computer conference that will be hosted by Apple Inc. It is scheduled to begin on June 7, 2021, with online sessions for registered members of the Apple Developer program from June 8 to 11.[1]
Expected announcements
Apple CEO Tim Cook has opened the keynote event at the conference since WWDC 2012.[2] New operating system announcements, such as iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS 12, are expected to be presented by Senior VP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi. New watchOS announcements are typically presented by VP of Technology Kevin Lynch.[3][4]
Background
WWDC 2020 was the first Worldwide Developers Conference to be held virtually in an online format, due to the COVID-19 outbreak that temporarily closed all of Apple's retail stores at various times around the world.[5][6] Despite improvements in 2021, ongoing pandemic conditions required the conference to be held online again, instead of in person within the Silicon Valley area.[1]
The submission period for the Swift Student Challenge, Apple's annual scholarship event, is open from March 30 to April 18, 2021.[1][7]
