Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 (or WWDC 2021 or WWDC21) is the 32nd annual computer conference to be hosted by Apple Inc. for its developers, expected to be held sometime in June 2021.[1]
Expected announcements
Apple CEO Tim Cook has opened the keynote event at the conference since WWDC 2012.[2] Operating system announcements, such as new versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, are typically presented by Senior VP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi. New watchOS announcements are typically presented by VP of Technology Kevin Lynch.[3]
Background
WWDC 2020 was the first Worldwide Developers Conference to be held virtually in an online format, due to the COVID-19 outbreak that temporarily closed all of Apple's retail stores at various times around the world.[4][5] It is not yet certain whether conditions in 2021 will allow the conference to be held in person again in the Silicon Valley area.[1]
Apple has also held annual scholarship events with the conference,[6] such as the Swift Student Challenge, which was held virtually in 2020.[5][7]
